What Word Lens does

Word Lens helps Arabic speakers learn English from movies. While a video plays with English subtitles, it shows the Arabic translation of the line and the meaning of the hard words, matched to the sentence.

What it reads on the pages you visit

The extension runs on web pages so it can find video subtitles. It reads only the subtitle text of the video you are watching. It does not read your browsing history, form fields, passwords, or the rest of the page, and it does not record what sites you visit.

What is sent, and to whom

• Google Translate (translate.googleapis.com, clients5.google.com): the current subtitle line and its words, to get the Arabic translation and meanings.
• Google text-to-speech (translate.google.com): a word or line, only when you press the listen button.
• Anthropic (api.anthropic.com): only if you switch the engine to AI and enter your own API key. The subtitle line and its words are sent with your key to get the meanings. Your key stays in your browser and is sent only to Anthropic.
• Next Horizon (nexthorizon.art): your email and password when you sign in, then your learning progress (see below) so it is saved to your account.

Your account and progress

Word Lens works with a Next Horizon account. When you sign in, the site returns a sign-in token that is kept in your browser. Your password is not stored by the extension.

Saved to your account: the words you save, their meaning and the sentence they came from, the words you marked as known, your XP, level, streak, quiz score and achievements.

Leaderboard: other learners can see your username, your profile picture, your level, XP, number of saved words and streak. Your email is never shown to anyone.

Stored in your browser

Your settings, saved words and progress are kept in Chrome's extension storage on your computer. Uninstalling the extension removes them from your browser.

What we do not do

• We do not sell or rent your data.
• We do not use your data for advertising, and Word Lens shows no ads.
• We do not use your data to decide credit or lending.
• We do not transfer it to anyone except the services listed above, for the purpose listed.

Deleting your data

Sign out from the extension and uninstall it to remove the copy in your browser. To delete your progress from your account, or your whole account, email info@nexthorizon.art from the address you signed up with and we will delete it.
